GAME 1

SCORE: Northwood 12, Gannon 11

RECORDS: Northwood 5-3, Gannon 7-4

RECAP: Northwood outlasts Gannon in slugfest, scores three runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn the walk-off win.

GAME 1 NOTES

  • Gannon began the game taking advantage of the windy elements with two solo home runs in the top of the first inning to grab a quick 2-0 lead.
  • Northwood responded with a run of their own in the bottom part of the frame by taking advantage of a two out walk followed by an RBI double by Ryan McClelland that scored Daniel Pulver.
  • The Golden Knights came right back with a five spot in the top of the second including a three run homer by Nate Cardy. Gannon lead 7-2 heading to the bottom of the second.
  • The Timberwolves plated a pair in the home half after Nick Palmer and Kyle Zeigler started the inning with a couple of singles. Moments later, after they each stole a base, Richie O'neil hit a sacrifice fly to score Palmer, and Connor Foley singled in Zeigler to pull the Timberwolves within four, 7-3.
  • The Timberwolves continued to chip away at the Gannon lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Miles Hardy scoring Ryan McClelland who had singled to lead off the inning.
  • After a 1-2-3 top of the fourth, the Timberwolves jumped in front for the first time after a four run fourth inning. Kyle Zeigler had the big hit in the frame, a three RBI double with the bases loaded to put Northwood up 8-7.
  • Gannon added a run in the fifth to even the score at eight, But Northwood also added a run on a single by Daniel Pulver that scored Connor Foley to regain the lead at 9-8 heading to the top of the seventh.
  • Moving to the seventh, with a chance to close out the game (scheduled seven inning game), Gannon plated three runs to stay alive and gain a two run lead, 11-9.
  • Needing to score two to force extra innings, Richie O'Neil began the inning with a leadoff single. The next batter, Connor Foley, hit a long fly ball out of the park for a two run homer to tie the game at 11. With one out, the bases loaded, and a tie game, Javier Martinez stepped to the plate and smashed a sharply hit single to left scoring Daniel Pulver easily for the walk-off win.

  • Northwood scored in every inning except the sixth.
  • There were four home runs in the contest, three by Gannon, and one by Northwood's Connor Foley, his first of the 2017 season and first of his collegiate career.
  • The Timberwolves trailed by as many as six runs in the contest, the six run turnaround equals the largest comeback of the season.

RECORDS: Northwood 6-3, Gannon 7-5

RECAP: Northwood takes the lead early, rides strong pitching and solid defense to earn the 5-2 victory.   

GAME 2 NOTES

  • Northwood picked up right where they left off after earning the walk-off win in game one as the Timberwolves put up a crooked number in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Connor Foley was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, three batters later, Ryan McClelland doubled in Foley. Grant Bridgewater followed up with a double of his own to score McClelland, and NU was in front 2-0 to start the game.
  • In the top of the third, Northwood gained a five run advantage after scoring three runs in the frame. McClelland lead the inning off with a double, followed by a Bridgewater single that advanced him to third. Two batters later Tanner McCarn then doubled home Mclelland and advanced Bridgewater to third. Ryan Spencer then singled home both Bridgewater and McCarn to cap the three run frame for Northwood.
  • Northwood's Matt Pearsal dominated the Gannon hitters in the early going and continued the strong performance allowing just two runs in five inninigs of work with both runs coming in the bottom of the fifth.
  • From there, Northwood's bullpen would take care of the rest as Larry Wood pitched an inning and a third, and Max Bain came on to retire the final batter with the bases loaded to close out the win for Northwood and earn the save.

  • Northwood never trailed in the contest.
  • The Timberwolves have now won three of the first four games on the 13 game trip in Florida.
  • The ten hits are the second fewest in a win this season for Northwood. Northwood had nine hits in the 6-2 win against Carson Newman on February 18.
