MIDLAND, MICH. – Senior Paul Evans and junior Rami Gharsalli have been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Evans earned Second-Team Academic All-America honors, while Gharsalli was named Third-Team Academic All-America.
Evans has established himself as one of the top throwers in Northwood school history. During the 20178-18 season, Evans claimed two All-American honors – sixth in the weight throw indoors and 12th in the hammer throw outdoors. The senior also broke the school record in the weight throw at three consecutive meets, with the final meet being the NCAA Championships en route to his All-American citation and the first in school history to break 20 meters in the event. At the GLIAC Championships, he finished fourth in the weight throw indoors, and third in the discus and fifth in the hammer outdoors.
His Northwood career concludes as a three-time All-American, a four-time NCAA Championships qualifier and a six-time participant, and the school record holder in the weight, hammer, and discus throws.
Evans recently graduated from Northwood with a graduate degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management with a cumulative GPA of 3.78.
Gharsalli's junior year saw him earn All-America Second Team honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships following a ninth-place performance in the 60 meter hurdles. He is also a member of the school record 4x100 relay that reset their own record at the NCAA Championships. At the GLIAC Championships, Gharsalli finished third in the 110 meter hurdles and as a member of the 4x100 relay.
Gharsalli boasts a 3.75 cumulative GPA in Entertainment, Sport, and Promotion Management.
