MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Northwood University women's golf team opened its spring season by winning the Tiffin Battle at the Beach Friday and Saturday afternoon (March 13-14).
The two-day, 36-hole event was held at the Pine Hills Course at Myrtlewood. The course played at 5,917 yards and was a par 72.
While only four teams competed at the event, Northwood dominated the action. The Timberwolves shot team scores of 329 and 314 to finish at 643 overall. That won the event by 56 shots, downing Ohio Dominican (699) and Tiffin (717). Concord University competed but did not have a team score.
Leading the way for Northwood was sophomore Danielle Little (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview), who was the overall medalist. She carded rounds of 78 and 76 to finish with a 10-over par total of 154, which was eight shots clear of the rest of the field. Emily Vergin (Milford, Mich.) was second overall at 162 (80-82). Monica Gabriele (Missassauga, Ont./St. Joseph) tied for fourth by shooting rounds of 85-80, while Marlies Klekner-Alt (Ottawa, Ont. / E'Cole) and Grace Cannon (Liverpool, England/Range) both finished sixth at 166. A total of 27 players competed in the event.
Northwood will compete at the Perry Park Spring Fling March 21-22 in Perry Park, Ky.
